The speed is ideal, perfect for safe commuting in busy urban areas or casual neighborhood rides. With heavier riders, the speed may dip to 8-10 mph, but that’s still a comfortable pace, much better than walking. Even with cars and decent public transit, on a nice day, riding solo gives the freedom of a car, the fresh air of walking, and about the same travel time as a bus.
Assembly was a bit tricky, especially the brake cable (an extra pair of hands helps). Some controls could be more intuitive, but the manual clears things up. The light is nice, and the bell is downright fun—I have to resist ringing it constantly. Folding it is easy, though the rear wheel cover’s flexibility as a locking mechanism feels odd at first. It’s practical, though, and doesn’t seem prone to wear. I usually store it upright.
My only complaint is the lack of a good spot to attach a bike lock. I’ve skipped taking it out when I knew I’d have to leave it unattended. On the bright side, it’s compact and light enough to bring indoors at casual workplaces or visits.
All in all, absolutely worth it.
Assembly was incredibly simple—just unfold it and secure the handlebars with six screws. The included Allen wrenches didn’t have the right size, but luckily, I had a multi-tool that worked. Otherwise, it comes pre-assembled.
There’s also an app for GPS tracking (via Bluetooth, so it only works when you're near the scooter), switching between D and S modes, controlling lights and cruise control, and locking it. The locking feature seems basic since pairing only requires holding your phone near the scooter—I’ll have to test if it prevents unauthorized linking.
Cool features include airless tires (no flats!) and regenerative braking, which slightly recharges the battery by converting momentum during braking. My mechanic friend explained it lights up on the display when active—I’m curious how much it helps when the battery’s low.
Battery life impressed me—it arrived 80% charged and lasted days, including heavy use at a family gathering where some riders pushed it to max speed. Speaking of speed, no one’s hit the claimed 19 mph yet; the fastest so far is 14 mph before it beeps and slows down. D mode might limit speed—S mode could be faster, but the manual doesn’t explain the difference well.
Minor downsides: the handlebars feel a bit high for average users, and the manual has awkward translations (like "drive across pedestrians"). Also, as a beginner, I didn’t realize you need a slight push before the throttle engages—it’s in the manual, but I missed it. My first ride was comically shaky until I got used to the brakes.
Overall, this scooter is sleek, high-tech, and surprisingly capable. My family will use it often, and I’m excited to push its limits further.
With the same engine size, this one is noticeably more powerful. Being near the weight limit, I can feel the difference when climbing hills. It also has a user-friendly app that connects seamlessly, and the map feature is great for exploring trails. The scooter feels solid and well-built.
However, I really dislike the tires. My other scooter has air-filled tires, which provide a smoother ride and better grip on turns. This one struggles on unpaved trails—it’s clearly not designed for rough terrain. It performs well on pavement, but the stiff tires handle bumps poorly.
The braking is weak and feels cheap, which isn’t reassuring in emergencies. Also, the stem design is uncomfortable, jutting out with sharp edges that could be dangerous in a crash.
Overall, I appreciate the power for the price, and it seems durable. But the handling and comfort leave much to be desired.
Pros:
- Faster than it appears in videos (possibly due to actual riding experience).
- Easy setup, lightweight, and simple to fold/power on/off.
- The app allows speed control in cruise and sport modes.
- Good range with minimal battery drain.
- Features 4 lights: front, rear (brake-activated flashing), and two on rear wheel sides.
- Includes a warning bell.
- Excellent brakes.
Cons:
- Doesn't reach advertised 19 mph (default 15 mph, 18 mph max via Minirobot app).
- Front-wheel drive might limit speed potential.
- The stem latch requires significant pressure to release, risking finger injury.
The scooter arrived complete and undamaged. Perfect for quick, efficient, and safe commuting in the $300-$400 range. 10/10 would repurchase. Planning to upgrade to a 40 mph model eventually, but currently enjoying the W5 Pro.
UPDATE:
Months later, it performs like new - maintains 18 mph with no part replacements needed. Minor app connectivity issue: locking only works at close phone proximity.
UPDATE 2:
As 2022 ends, the scooter remains reliable - consistent speed, fast charging, no replacements despite weekly use. Excellent build quality. The secure stem latch still requires careful handling. Highly recommended purchase! Will share photos in future updates. BUY THIS SCOOTER!
